Worst campground in New Zealand so far! Definitely not Top 10 standard. We have stayed at 12 campgrounds (mostly Top 10) on the north and south island, but this was by far the worst. Altough the campground was quite full, only one unisex shower/toilet block was open and the facilities were dirty, wet and disgusting/ not properly cleaned: dead insects, cobwebs,... In the morning before checkout there was a long line /queue in front of the toilet/shower block..people were waiting to brush their teeth, for instance. In one of the BBQ areas a dead bird was lying on the ground. The laundry room floor was not clean either and there were also dead insects on the lights in the kitchen. We would definitely not recommend this campground (despite its location)!
We booked and paid in full via their website. A day after, Stacey called us to say that there are no rooms available for the days that we selected. She told us to cancel it and a refund will be processed. It's over three weeks now and we still haven't received our refund after four follows ups via call and email. Stacey has also progressively became very defensive and rude about the whole situation, at one point she said that she will handle it when she is not busy. The latest call was the worst as she interrupted me the moment she heard the word 'refund' and told me to call another day. I understand that everyone is experiencing challenges but at least maintain professionalism at all times - especially to us Top10 Club Members who have paid in full on a booking that Top 10 Franz Josef cancelled but still not getting the service we expect.
The staff were super kind and the rooms were tidy. -Our stay was not pleasant, as the rooms had no privacy - it was super interesting to see cobwebs, lol. I think the room needs an upgrade
